My Name is ʻŌpūkahaʻia – Maui

My biggest artistic endeavor of 2019 by far was “My Name is ʻŌpūkahaʻia”. Iʻve been performing this piece fairly consistently since I wrote it in 2017 but this year was huge. In March we took the show to Maui performing for several hundred middle-schoolers before we took it to the Hana community (Where I met some of my family members for the very first time). The Maui tour ended with a culminating sold-out performance at the Maui Arts & Cultrual Center.

April marked the shows Kauaʻi debut in Lihue, presented by the Kauaʻi Museum.

In September I performed for the entire middle and high school student body of Punahou School over six-day period.

October however was the big one. For an entire month we toured the show to Connecticut, Maine, Boston and Washington DC. I performed in theaters, museums, churches, universities and historic residences. By the end of the tour I had performed 23 out of the 29 days that we were on the road. I was so exhausted!
